Harris gives new life to historic building

HARRIS, Iowa — A small but determined group of Harris residents have begun work to restore an old building that was once the heartbeat of the city during its heyday.

Harris's old marshal's office and jail near the corner of Main Street and Henry Avenue has seen more action in the past three months than it has since sometime in the late 20th century, when the city ceased using it for official business.

"We're not using big equipment or skilled-labor, but we're all hands-on," said Harris City Council member Wayne Boyer, who has spearheaded the restoration.
