Welcome to Melvin!

"The Biggest Little City in Iowa "

In October of 1990 people swarmed to a cornfield north of Melvin to catch a glimpse of a moose that had wandered into the area. It is presumed that the moose came from northern Minnesota. The moose stayed in the area for several days before wandering further south to Sutherland and Spencer Iowa. Melvin used to celebrate Moose Days during the summer.

In 2007 Melvin was a mid-day stop for RAGBRAI. RAGBRAI is the Des Moines Register's great bike ride across Iowa. The annual event attracts thousands of bicycle riders from across the country. The event proved to be a great opportunity where Melvin was able to showcase what it had to offer.

Melvin (population: 200) offers the Melvin Arboretum Park, unique murals and is near the Goewey Township Cemetery Prairie Preserve.
