OCEDC Retail Prospect Activity
The Commission was very active in this area over the last
year S & G Laminates in Sibley, Bow Tie Auto Repair in Ocheyedan, Barama
Drug in Sibley, and Rae's Etc. in Sibley experienced the expansion of their
retail businesses in Osceola County with direct aid from the Commission.
The Commission continued to work with the City of Sibley, a private
developer, and the Dollar General Store. The actual 7,500 square foot
facility was erected last fall and had a grand opening last spring. The
private developer, Mr. George Saab from the American Realty and Development
(Camden, Missouri) indicated that he was pleased with the City of Sibley's
council for support provided to this project, as well as the support
provided from the OCEDC staff He indicated that, without this support, the
project would not have gone forward Mr. Saab shall be leasing his facility
to Dollar General and the new store can be found as a welcome addition to
the City of Sibley's retail sector.
In addition, Hope Haven has indicated that it is interested in relocating to
the City of Sibley's Industrial Park if someone could be found to purchase
their building located along highway 60 and Main street. The City of Sibley
has indicated that they would be willing to allow Hope Haven to locate in
the Sibley Industrial Park. Hope Haven has asked the OCEDC to be its
facilitator for its proposed handicapped workshop expansion. There have been
several inquiries towards the Hope Haven building for new retail
establishments to locate in Sibley. All of these contacts are pending as of
the writing of this report.
The OCEDC receives inquiries from existing retail establishments seeking
various technical assistance For example, Main street Floral requested a
series of meetings whereby information was sought regarding continued
operational issues.
Letters were sent to various retail establishments seeking their interest to
relocate to Osceola County Among these letters was a letter sent to Burger
Time Corporation (West
Fargo, North Dakota) seeking information about their franchise; Paramount
Management Group, Inc. (Ankeny, Iowa, Duckwall-Alco Stores Inc) seeking
information about their interest in locating a retail business in Sibley;
The Community Real Estate Strategies, LLC Seeking information about their
establishment of a store in Sibley.
The OCEDC remains at a constant point for interested parties
wishing to locate into the county. The OCEDC has on file an inventory of
available retail property prospects and a list of available retail sites.
