Recreation and Park Facilities in Osceola County
Osceola county has a
variety of recreational areas and opportunities. The glaciers that were here years ago,
left wetlands and unique geological areas. Many of these areas are open to
the public to be enjoyed by by sportsmen,
naturalists, and anyone else who enjoys the outdoors.

IOWA LAKE
This 114 acre area is located
3.5 miles north and one mile west of Harris. The site provides
boating, fishing, picnicking, and hunting opportunities.
RUSH LAKE
This
336 acre recreation area is located two miles east and one mile north of Ocheyedan. This
area provides a variety of hunting opportunities and some interesting canoeing
and kayaking experiences.

Ely-Bauemeister Wildlife Management Area - This 63 acre area
provides hiking, hunting and a historic site.
- Johnson Wilderness Area - This 12 acre site is located one mile
southeast of Allendorf. The area provides hunting and camping opportunities.
- Lool Wildlife Management Area - This 2.5 acre area is located 4.5
miles west and 2 miles north of Ocheyedan
- May City Park - This six acre area is located two miles northwest
of May City. The area has electricity, pit toilets, drinking water, and a
small lake.
- Ocheyedan Well Wildlife Area - This two acre area is located one
half mile south and two miles west of Ocheyedan.
- Ransom Wildlife Management Area - This four acre area is located
six miles north and one mile west of Sibley.
- Roelf-Johnson Wildlife Management Area - This four acre area is
located 1.5 miles south of Sibley.
- Sutton Lake Marsh - This 52 acre area is located 5 miles south
and one mile east of Ocheyedan.
- Swanson Wildlife Area - This 3 acre site is located five miles
south of May City and has limited hunting.
- Timmons Wildlife Refuge - This nine acre site is located two
miles east of Ocheyedan.
- Veldboom Wildlife Management Area - Located three miles south of
May City, this 13 acre site provides hunting and hiking opportunities.
- Willow Creek Wildlife Management Area - Access to this 90 acre
area is from highway 9. Located one mile northeast of Allendorf. The park
provides picnicking, hiking, a small lake and hunting.

- Dagel Unit - Otter Creek Wildlife Management Area - Located three
miles south of Sibley, this 23 acre area provides hiking and hunting.
- Leinen Pits Access - Located one and one half miles south of Sibley, this 10 acre
area provides limited hunting opportunities.
- Peter's Pit Access Area - This 19 acre area is located 4 miles northwest of
Sibley. The area contains a small lake and some hunting opportunities.
- Sharbondy park - This one acre facility is located 5 miles east of Sibley next ot
the wind generators. The park has drinking water, pit toilets, picnic grounds, and
electricity.
- Sibley Unit-Otter Creek Wildlife Management Area - This 25 acre area is located
one mile south of Sibley. The are provides hunting and hiking opportunities.
- Viola Wildlife Management Area - This site is located two miles north and 5 miles
west of Sibley and has three acres of hunting available.
- Wasmund Slough - This ten acre are is located 5 miles north of Sibley and has
hunting available.
- Wheeler Wildlife Refuge - This 150 acre site is located one mile south of Sibley.

- Devil's Ridge Wildlife Area - Located one and a half miles northwest of
Ocheyedan. This area provides 160 acres of hunting and hiking opportunities.
- Dirk's Wildlife Management Area - This three acre site is located four miles
south of Ocheyedan and provides limited hiking and hunting opportunities.
- Keller Wilderness Area - This is a two acre site located two miles southwest of
Ocheyedan, which has limited hunting opportunities.
- Ocheyedan "Y" Rest Area - Located one mile north of Ocheyedan off
highway 9, this two acre area has pit toilets and picnic facilities.
- Swalve Wildlife Management Area - This 104 acre area is located 1.5 miles west of
Ocheyedan, and has hunting and hiking available.
- Thomas Pit Access - This 53 acre site contains a 15 acre lake. a shooting range,
and hunting opportunities. This area is located 4 miles south of Ocheyedan.
- Wilson Pit Wildlife Area - Located one mile west of Ocheyedan, this site has five
acres of hunting opportunities.
- Wolter's Prairie - This 40 acre site shows what the area looked like 200 years
ago. It contains a historic structure, hunting, and hiking. It is located three miles west
of Ocheyedan.

half mile east of Harris.
