Commission of Veterans Affairs

The Osceola County Commission of Veterans Afffairs offers two comprehensive programs for military veterans:

Veterans Service Program

The Osceola County Veterans Service Program provides assistance to all eligible veterans and authorized dependents in applying for federal benefits and other related matters.

These include:

1. Application assistance for:

  • VA Enrollment
  • Compensation for Service Connected Disability
  • Pension for Non Service Connected Disability
  • Death Pension for Surviving Spouse
  • Certificates of Eligibility for Hoam Loans
  • Aid and Attendance for Nursing Home and Housebound Veterans
  • Overpayment Resolution
  • Appeal of Unfavorable VA Rulings
  • Application for Iowa Veterans Home
  • DAV Transportation to Sioux FAlls VAMC

2. Obtaining Military Records and Awards
3. Distributing Grave Markers and Flags
4. Networking with VA Hospitals and Clients

Veterans Relief Program

The Osceola County VEterans RElief Program is funded by the county to provide assistance to resident Veterans with emergency basic needs.

These needs include:

  • Rent
  • Food
  • Utilities
  • Burial

To be eligible for this program you must meet the following requirements:

a. Be a Veteran with an Honorable Discharge
b. Be a resident of Osceola County
c. Meet certain income guidelines
d. Apply for any and all benefits
e. Register with Iowa Workforce (unless disabled)
f. Have emergency basic needs that cannot be met by other means

The Osceola County Commission of Veterans Affairs is a member of The Association of County Commissioners of Veterans Affairs. The Commissioners and Directors are certified to handle veterans' issues with credentials updated annually.
